Hearing Assessment
An Audiology Assessment (hearing test) is a comprehensive examination used to determine your hearing ability. It involves a collection of tests to measure how well you can detect sounds and your understanding of speech. The results can then be used to identify any hearing loss and its degree. It may also indicate various potential pathologies especially when under the care of an Ear, Nose and Throat Speicalist which can greatly assist in recommending appropriate treatment options to improve your hearing health.
Hearing Aids
Hearing aids are small devices that help individuals who have trouble hearing. They amplify sounds so that you can hear better in daily situations and take part in conversations which may have taken a back seat for a long while.
There are a wide range of hearing aids available. They differ mainly in style, technology level and ‘features’ such as how automatic a hearing aid is, the amount of noise reduction and its customization. Pictured below are the different hearing aid styles.
01
Receiver in the Ear (RIE)
The most popular of styles as it is a small, discrete option and is versatile in that it is suitable for the mildest of hearing losses and can be programmed for up to severe hearing losses.
02
Behind the Ear (BTE)
The BTE style is ideal for individuals with a history of ear infections or severe to profound hearing loss.
03
Custom Devices
This type of hearing aid is made by taking an impression of your ear. This is suitable for individuals that would like a discrete option or those that have some dexterity limitations.
